If you’re planning to pop the question and searching for the best proposal locations in Hamilton, you’re in the right place! Hamilton and the surrounding area are packed with beautiful spots that work amazingly for romantic, memorable proposal moments – from historic gardens and waterfront views to hidden lookouts and peaceful nature trails. Whether you’re imagining a quiet intimate moment or a scenic backdrop for photos, I’ve rounded up my favourite proposal spots that photograph incredibly and give you so much variety for your celebration! Below are some of the top proposal locations in Hamilton that I’ve had the joy of capturing on camera, with tips on what makes each one special and how to plan your moment there!

DUNDURN CASTLE

Waterfront, Lookout, Nature

Dundurn Castle is a Hamilton classic and an incredible choice for a proposal any time of year! With its historic stone architecture, tree-lined pathways, and views overlooking the waterfront, there’s no shortage of beautiful spots to pop the question. Many of my clients have been enjoying the Hamilton Bay View Point location to keep things private along the pathway with the water in the background! Otherwise, you could go big with the castle as your backdrop! Either way it’s a timeless location that feels romantic, elegant, and unmistakably Hamilton.

Visit Dundurn Castle: 610 York Blvd, Hamilton, ON.

Ancaster Mill

Private, Structures, Gardens

Ancaster Mill is one of my all-time favourite proposal locations! While the waterfall is always popular (and beautiful!), the gazebo tucked behind the historic buildings is the most private spot on the property and perfect for an intimate proposal. A permit is required, but it comes with incredible staff support who help block entrances so your moment stays completely private. Bonus points for disguising your proposal with lunch or dinner at the restaurant – it’s such a great excuse to dress up and make a whole day of it!

Visit Ancaster Mill: 548 Old Dundas Rd, Ancaster, ON.

MCMASTER UNIVERSITY

Structures, Gardens, Rustic

McMaster University is a meaningful and beautiful place for a proposal – especially if you met here or have a personal connection to campus. The historic buildings, lush gardens, and winding paths give so much variety in a small area. Edwards Arch in particular is a favorite spot, and for good reason! It’s perfectly sized, timeless, and makes for a perfectly symmetrical backdrop! McMaster proposals always feel extra special when there’s a shared history tied to the location!

Visit McMaster University: 1280 Main St W, Hamilton, ON.

Edgewater Manor

Waterfront, Private, Resturant

Edgewater Manor is such an underrated proposal location and one I absolutely love. The wedding ceremony site behind the historic building backs directly onto the lake and is stunning at sunset. It feels elegant, private, and romantic without being overcomplicated. With the restaurant on site, it’s also a perfect excuse to plan a fancy dinner and turn your proposal into a full evening experience. As a wedding favourite, this spot photographs beautifully and always delivers.

Visit Edgewater Manor: 518 Fruitland Rd, Stoney Creek, ON.

Beamer Memorial Conservation Area

Lookout, Natural, Forested

If you love the idea of Dundas Peak but not the crowds, Beamer Memorial Conservation Area is such a great alternative. The Beamer lookout point offers breathtaking views over Grimsby and the surrounding landscape, and it’s far less busy than Dundas, making it ideal for a proposal. It’s a hidden gem with major wow-factor scenery!

Visit Beamer Memorial Conservation Area: 28 Quarry Rd, Grimsby, ON.

KERNCLIFF PARK

Open, Natural, Rocky

Kerncliff Park is one of my favourite natural spaces to shoot at, and it’s an incredible proposal location. The boardwalk creates beautiful leading lines, the rocky cliff edges offer stunning views, and the surrounding forest gives so much variety. In the fall, this place absolutely shines with colour. It’s perfect for couples who want a proposal that feels adventurous, scenic, and completely surrounded by nature.

Visit Kerncliff Park: 2198 Kerns Rd, Burlington, ON.

Sam Lawrence PARK

Gardens, Open, Lookouts

With its signature view overlooking the city of Hamilton, Sam Lawrence Park is quite the spot! It provides a mix of open space, winding stone paths, and a variety of beautiful gardens! The flowering trees make for stunning backdrops in the spring and the beautifully arranged flower gardens provide another stunning scene throughout the summer.

Visit Sam Lawrence Park: 255 Concession St, Hamilton, ON.

Battlefield Park

Elegant, Open, Structures

Battlefield Park is a great option if you’re looking for a cool backdrop at a park that is a bit more polished and formal. The historic monument, stone paths, and manicured gardens give the park a grand, timeless feel. It photographs beautifully year-round and works especially well for couples who want a classic, elegant proposal backdrop without feeling too busy or crowded.

Visit Battlefield Park: 77 King St W, Stoney Creek, ON

Sherman Falls

Lookout, Nature, Hiking

Sherman Falls is a stunning choice for a Hamilton waterfall proposal, but just be aware of the crowds! Early mornings are key here. Weekends (especially in the fall) can get busy, but heading out early or in the off-season gives you privacy and a peaceful atmosphere that’s so worth it. After the proposal, you can take photos in front of the falls and wander along the river trails for a relaxed, natural engagement-style session. It’s a beautiful spot that feels adventurous and romantic all at once!

Visit Sherman Falls: 720 Artaban Rd, Dundas, ON. (Parking lot!)

VILLAGE SQUARE

Urban, Structures, Nighttime

Village Square feels like stepping into a little European getaway right in Burlington. Cobblestone paths, historic buildings, and old-fashioned lamps make it an adorable and unique proposal spot – especially at night with all the lights! It’s also a great winter option when greenery isn’t at its best elsewhere. If you’re looking for something elegant, charming, and a bit different, this spot is such a great choice!

Visit Village Square: 418 Pearl St, Burlington, ON.
